Rules:
Craps can seem complicated at first, yet don’t let this discourage you from playing! There are several rolls of the dice in each round. The first roll is called the “Come Out” roll and the round will end immediately if a combination of 2, 3, 7, 11 or 12 is rolled. A point is established if the dice combinations 4, 5, 6, 8, or 9 are rolled, for which an “On” puck will is placed on the point. If a point is established then the dice will be rolled until that number or a 7 is rolled. The ways in which players win and lose depends on the bets they have made, which are:
- Pass Line Bet: before the Come Out roll, players can place their bets on the pass line. If they do so, they are betting that a 7 or 11 will be rolled first, for which they will win. If, however, a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled, the players lose (2 or 3 being “Craps”). All other dice combinations become the point, and must be rolled up again before a 7 in order to win. The payout for the Pass Line Bet is even money.
- Don’t Pass Line Bets: before the Come Out roll, players can place their bets on the Don’t Pass Line. If they do so, they are betting that a dice combination of 7 will be rolled before a point is established. If a 7, 2 or 3 is rolled on the Come Out, the players win. If the point or an 11 is rolled, the players lose. A dice combination of 12 is considered a push. The payout for the Don’t Pass Line Bet is 1:1.
- Come Bets: Come Bets on the betting board relate to those that win even money if a 7 or 11 is rolled after the Come Out, and lose if a 12 or Craps is rolled. If a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 is rolled, though, a point is established and the bet is moved the Come point area on the board. The come point must be rolled again before a 7 in order to win even money, yet if a 7 appears first, the bet is lost.
- Don’t Come Bets: Don’t Come bets on the betting board are the opposite of Come bets. This means that they win even money (1:1) if the shooter rolls a 2 or a 3, and lose if a 7 or an 11 is rolled after the Come Out. A 12 is considered a push and all other numbers become the Don’t Come Point. If a Point is established then a 7 needs to be rolled before the point is rolled again in order to win, for which the payout is again, 1:1.
- Odds Bets: Odds Bets in Craps are like Insurance in Blackjack, in that they back up a wide range of available bets, specifically the Pass Bets, Don’t Pass Bets, Come Bets and Don’t Come Bets. The maximum amount allowed is thrice the amount of your initial bet, yet it pays differently for each of the bets it supports, as explained below:
- Pass Odds: 4 and 10 pays 2:1, 5 and 9 pays 3:2, and 6 and 8 pays 6:5.
- Come Odds: 4 and 10 pays 2:1, 5 and 9 pays 3:2, and 6 and 8 pays 6:5.
- Don’t Pass Odds: 4 and 10 pays 1:2, 5 and 9 pays 2:3, and 6 and 8 pays 5:6.
Odds Bets, however, are unique because unlike other bets on the table, they can be cancelled or changed throughout the actual game play and are therefore not restricted to the betting time-frame only!
- Pass Line Odds Bets: Pass Line Odds bets pay differently for each possible dice combination; 4 and 10 pays 2:1, a 5 or 9 pays 3:2 and a 6 or 8 pays 6:5 (IE – this bet pays true odds). The place on the table to put your chips on the boundary of the Pass Line bar underneath your initial bet.
- Don’t Pass Line Odds Bets: Don’t Pass Line Odds Bets pay true odds for winning dice combinations; 4 and 10 pay 1:2, 5 and 9 pay 2:3 and 6 or 8 pay 5:6. All you need to do in order to bet on this bet is to place your chip(s) on the 6x6 dice image on the right hand side of the Don’t Pass Bar.
- Come and Don’t Come Odds Bets: Once your Come and Don’t Come bets have been moved to the point area, you should place Come and Don’t Come Odds bets beneath the standard Come and Don’t Come bet areas.
- Come Odds Bets: 4 and 10 pay 2:1, 5 and 9 pay 3:2, and 6 and 8 pay 6:5.
- Don’t Come Odds Bets: 4 and 10 pay 1:2, 5 and 9 pay 2:3, and 6 and 8 pay 5:6.
- Field Bets: If a player bets on a Field Bet, he/she is betting that a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 will be rolled on the next roll. Players are awarded double the amount of their original bet if a 2 or a 12 is rolled (2:1), and even money (1:1) if the shooter rolls a 3, 4, 9, 10 or 11. All other numbers (5, 6, 7, and 8) are considered a loss. All that is required of players in order to make this bet is to place chips on the area marked as “field”.
- Big 6 and Big 8 Bets: Choose the dice combinations you wish to bet on and place your chips in the areas on the betting board marked as “Big 6” or “Big 8”. If the number you bet on is rolled up before a 7 is, then you win even money on your bet (1:1).
- Place Win bets: Place Win Bets are made at any time after the Come Out roll. They involve betting on any of the dice totals 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. Players are awarded their payouts if a 7 is rolled up by the shooter before the number that was bet on is rolled. The payouts for each of the numbers is as follows:
| Number | Payout | | 6 and 8 | 7:6 | | 5 and 9 | 7:5 | | 4 and 10 | 9:5 |
- Place Lose Bets: Place Lose Bets are the exact opposite of the Place Win Bets, in that the players win only if a 7 is rolled up before the number that was bet on is rolled. The chips for this bet must be placed over the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10, and their payouts are as follows:
| Number | Payout | | 6 and 8 | 4:5 | | 5 and 9 | 5:8 | | 4 and 10 | 5:11 |
- Buy Bets: Buy Bets work in the same way as Place Bets only they have different payouts, they are distinguished from the Come Bets on the betting board by an indicator with the title “Buy”. They are off limits during the Come Out roll, and require that a 5% commission (‘vigorish’) be paid if won. The winnings are paid using true odds, such that numbers 6 and 8 pay 6:5, numbers 5 and 9 pay 3:2 and numbers 4 and 10 pay 2:1.
- Any 7 Bets: This is one of the simplest bets to choose from at the Craps table. Anyone who uses it is simply betting on the chance that a dice combination of 7 will be rolled up next. The payout for Any 7 Bets is 4:1. To bet on it, put your chip(s) on the box with “Seven” written on it on the betting board.
- Any 11 Bets: this is the same as the Any 7 Bets, in that the player is betting on the chance that the next dice combination to be rolled will be 11. Chips should be placed on the area displaying two dice adding showing a total of 11, and if an 11 is indeed rolled up, the payout is 15:1.
- Any Craps Bets: “Craps” relates to the numbers 2, 3 and 12, and by making this bet, you are betting that they will be the next numbers rolled up by the dice. Simply place your chip(s) in the box displaying “Any Craps”. The payout for the Any Craps Bets is 7:1.
- C and E Bets: each of these letters are the names of two individual bets, outlined here below:
- C Bets: this is a short name for the Any Craps Bet, and it is therefore exactly the same as the Any Craps Bet. To make it, simply put your chip(s) on the area featuring the letter “C”.
- E Bets: this is a short name for the Any 11 Bet, meaning that it works in exactly the same way. Players who want to use this bet should place their chip(s) on the area displaying the letter “E”.
- Horn Bets: A Horn Bet is a bet that the players make if they believe that the next roll will be a 2, 3, 11 or 12. If one of these number combinations is rolled up in the next roll, then the player wins. The payout for dice combinations 3 and 11 is 15:1, whilst the payout for the numbers 2 and 12 is 30:1.
- Hard Way Bets: A Hard Way Bet is what a player should choose when he/she believes that the next dice combination to be rolled will be a 4, 6, 8, or 10, and will be rolled as doubles (two 2’s, two 4’s, two 5’s). This is because the term “The Hard Way” means rolling a double, whereas the easy way would be rolling up the same number not in doubles. Fro example, rolling a 6 with two 3’s is the Hard Way, and rolling a 6 with a 4 and 2 is the easy way. and the combination must be rolled up before a 7 is rolled in order to win. The payout for the Hard Way Bet is 7:1 for numbers 4 and 10, and 9:1 for numbers 6 and 8. Making this bet involves placing chips on the area of the Craps table that displays the two dice with the number combination you have chosen.
